Jason Puckett

Jason Puckett considers himself the luckiest news guy in Charlotte, because he gets to work at the station that he grew up watching! 726w6i

He spent his formative years down in Union County attending Weddington Schools and watching an unusual amount of local news. His first real attempt at broadcasting was on the school announcements. Now that he's back in Charlotte and well into his 30s (don't ask), he's incredibly excited to be able to tell meaningful stories across Charlotte and down in his home of Union County.

With nearly a decade in the industry, this is Jason's fourth station. He previously worked in Lubbock at KAMC, Austin at KVUE, and previously in Charlotte at WCNC. Before taking a small break from the news world, Jason served as the "National Reporter" for all TEGNA stations. He led a team of researchers in producing daily fact-check and verification stories that were aired on 55+ television stations across the country. At this point, he's dabbled in a bit of everything from heartwarming human-interest stories to challenging local governments, to hurricane coverage and more.

Jason attended Elon University where he studied broadcast journalism and political science and had the opportunity to intern at CBS News' "60 Minutes" as well as travel abroad and report on events in and Hong Kong.

Outside the news, Jason is a family man. He and his wife met in high school and then reconnected during the pandemic and are now living down in Indian Trail with his stepdaughter and two dogs. As an Eagle Scout, Jason has always had a love for the outdoors and can often be found hiking or camping. He's also a semi-decent novice woodworker; he can't build a house yet, but he can turn an IKEA bookshelf into a able side table. He's also a big movie and tech nerd. Don't be surprised if you catch a random Star Wars or D&D reference from him.

Jason describes himself as "your average, slightly-obsessive, caffeine-fueled newsman with a soft spot for family, dogs and mom's unwavering (and strongly biased) belief that I'm the next Walter Cronkite."
