ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Downtown Neighborhood Association is showcasing apartments and condos downtown as part of a downtown living tour, an event the group had featured annually until 2018.

Saturday’s tour is designed to attract first-time buyers and renters, as well as investors to highlight amenities and opportunities within the neighborhood.

James Page, the president of the Downtown Neighborhood Association, said the event will include a shuttle to transport people between the featured properties.

“We’re bringing that back to share the advantages of living in downtown St. Louis,” Page said. “We’re asking other people to come us to see the opportunities we know are here.”

One stop on the tour includes the Bogen Lofts, recently acquired by Alex Oliver’s company, Oliver Properties. The company is updating some of the amenities and units in the building. Oliver described it as an emphasis on creating a safe and comfortable living environment along with a community within the building.

“This is for that younger crowd. Earlier in their career, earlier in their professional life. They’re looking for that community,” Oliver said.

Though population decline has plagued the St. Louis region, one demographic that seems to favor the city is younger adults.

This week Commercial Cafe, a blog centered on commercial real estate, named St. Louis as a top ten hotspot for Gen Z, citing job opportunities, affordability and a variety of vibrant neighborhoods.

The National Association of Realtors also ranked St. Louis second in the nation for Gen Z homebuyers, though the age bracket only represents around three percent of home sales.

Charlie Hinderliter with the St. Louis Realtor Association, said the city offers value and culture for buyers. But he also said region, like many other metropolitan areas, needed to do more to further expand housing availability and affordable options.

“We’re living differently and we need more housing and more types of housing,” he said.
