DETROIT (WWJ) - Sometimes, it’s not “peanut butter jelly time,” like when you’re in the middle of a Zoom court hearing.

Asja Outerbridge found herself in a bit of a jam when she was called out on Zoom for making her sick daughter a classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

“I have a 3-year-old daughter, and I am a single parent. That day, I had to call off work. I had to call her out of school because she was vomiting,” she said.

Outerbridge had a 9 a.m. court appearance for a misdemeanor charge.

The judge was not too happy to see that she was wearing a robe.

“I’ve seen a couple of jokes. I don’t wanna get in trouble for saying it, but they like, ‘Why is the judge mad? He got on a robe,’” she said.

Outerbridge said she was late to the hearing, which did not help.

But the kicker was when she tried to make a sandwich for her sick child while on camera.

“No, we can’t talk at the same time. Put whatever you’re trying to prepare down,” the judge is heard saying to Outerbridge during the hearing.

“I’m sorry that your daughter is sick, but again, you’re in court,” the judge added.

Outerbridge its she could have handled the situation better.

“I definitely was wrong. I could have came dressed better and more prepared, and I don’t want the judge to think that I’m laughing at the situation at hand because I’m not. I take that very seriously. I do genuinely, with a serious face, apologize to the judge,” she said.

Outerbridge said she holds herself able for her actions and wants to turn this situation into something positive.

“Actually, I’m a personal stylist, so I know how to present myself, but that day, you know, it’s hard for moms out here. I’m not gonna lie. I took, ‘Miss Outerbridge, are you wearing a robe?’ and I turned that into a transition of what you would wear to court,” she said. “And I showed different outfits you could wear to court, how you can present yourself and how you cannot be caught slacking in a robe eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, OK? Because you don’t wanna do that, that’s, that’s not a good idea.”
