9-year-old bitten in face by dog, police say

KENT, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) - A 9-year-old girl was bitten in the face by a dog, according to police.

According to the Kent Police Department, the girl’s mother called police on Thursday from the hospital.

The mother told police the dog bit her daughter while the girl was petting it. A man was able to grab the dog and pull him away, according to the police report.

The mother took her daughter to the hospital, where the girl needed five stitches.

According to the report, “the wound appears as though it may cause a lasting scar on [the girl’s] mouth/lip.”

Police ed the dog’s owner, who said she did not know when the dog last had a rabies shot. The dog was also not ed with the county dog warden.

The woman was cited for having a dangerous and vicious dog. The owner is required to follow the health department’s quarantine procedure.
