‘Tremendous loss’: Police sergeant hit and killed by car while escorting funeral procession

ANGLETON, Texas (Gray News) – A police sergeant in Texas was killed in an accident while he was leading a funeral procession, according to officials.
The Angleton Police Department released a statement Monday saying Sgt. J.D. White died after he was struck by a car while escorting the procession on Sunday.
Officials said White had been with the department for 19 years, serving the community in a number of different roles with the most recent being as the Sergeant of Professional Integrity and the department’s Public Information Officer.
“This is a tremendous loss for our department and the Angleton community,” Angleston Police Chief Lupe Valdez said. “Sgt. White was a trusted officer and a comionate leader who brought heart to every aspect of his work.”
He continues, “His dedication to the Shop with a Cop program, and his ability to connect with and uplift children in our community, speaks volumes about the kind of person he was. His absence will be deeply felt by all.”
The police department said it sends condolences to White’s family, friends and fellow officers.
