First Alert Weather Day Issued for This Afternoon: Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop along the cold front this afternoon. One or two storms may reach severe strength, particularly from St. Louis to the south and east. Strong winds are the primary concern. Tornadoes and large hail are unlikely. This is a lower-end Level 1 threat (on a scale where 5 is the highest), but we still want to alert you to the possibility of some strong storms this afternoon. The fuel for storms will diminish quickly early this evening, and rain chances will drop significantly tonight. This is why we have a narrow window for stronger storms.

Thursday & Friday will also be active with occasional rain and storms. The rain chances on Thursday are mainly confined to the earlier hours. We are watching storms on Friday as a couple could be severe, but it’s too early to pin down the timing and location, let alone whether there will be enough storm fuel to result in severe storms. That fuel could be suppressed by clouds and rounds of rain.
