Week Ahead in Washington: June 1

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Congress returns to Washington following the Memorial Day recess with an eye on President Donald Trump’s agenda.
All eyes are on the upper chamber as senators take on the president’s budget proposal, which he calls “one big, beautiful bill.”
The plan calls for tax cuts as well as more money for the military and border security. It also includes potential cuts to Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, formerly known as Food Stamps.
The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly ed the plan on May 22 with only Republican , but some GOP senators are already criticizing the bill for its potential impact on the national debt.
WorldPride continues in the nation’s capital this week. Washington’s annual pride march and parade are set for Saturday.
Also this week, several people are being honored with the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights Award including Maine Democratic Governor Janet Mills.
