Alligator estimated to weigh about 400 pounds spotted on road, deputies say

ONSLOW COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV/Gray News) - Deputies in North Carolina shared pictures of a massive gator they came across this past week.
The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office said the alligator was caught along Old 30 Road on Wednesday.
The reptile, which they called Pepe the Gator, was estimated to be between 350 and 400 pounds and was about 10 feet long.

The sheriff’s office jokingly said the alligator was cited for “suspicion of being a dinosaur” before it was removed.
Pepe fortunately did not hurt anyone and was safely located.
According to NC Wildlife, alligators are commonly seen in coastal areas such as Onslow County, particularly around swamps, marshes and bodies of water.
