ATLANTA, Ga. (WANF/Gray News) - Deputies said a man in north Georgia was arrested after he allegedly tried to abduct a woman using a crossbow on Memorial Day.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and deputies with the Rabun County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Jack Thomas Harkins, of Tiger, on an aggravated assault charge Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies said Harkins allegedly approached a woman who was walking her dog on Bear Gap Road near Minnehaha Falls on Monday morning.

Harkins is accused of then pointing a crossbow at the woman and ordering her into his truck. The woman instead ran away and called 911.

Harkins was booked into the Rabun County Detention Center.

The sheriff’s office said the Lake Rabun Homeowners group and the Lake Rabun Association posted warnings to the community about the incident soon after it happened.

In a statement, deputies said Sheriff Mark Gerrells “extends his gratitude to the concerned citizens that helped bring a successful resolution to this investigation.”
