Missouri counties warn residents of property fraud
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Officials with St. Charles, St. Louis, Lincoln and Franklin counties came together on Thursday to warn of property fraud scams.
The Recorder of Deeds for each of the four counties is urging the public to sign up for a free property fraud alert program that will notify them if their name shows up on any documents that someone is submitting to their office.
“I’m aware of one case in St. Charles County where a family member tried to fraudulently transfer a property in the owner’s name,” said St. Charles County Recorder of Deeds Mary Dempsey.
Here is how you can sign up for the alerts:
- St. Louis County
- St. Charles County
- Franklin County
- Lincoln County
If you receive an alert, you are encouraged to your Recorder of Deeds before taking further action.
