2 dead after report of armed robbery, crash in Metro East
SAUGET, Ill. (First Alert 4) – Two people were killed in a Thursday afternoon crash in the Metro East.
Cahokia Heights Police Chief Thomas Trice said that around 12:15 p.m. his department received a 911 call for an armed robbery and shots fired on Cahokia Street. While heading there, officers received a description of the suspects and suspect vehicle, which they located at Jerome Lane and Route 3.
After finding the suspect vehicle, officers activated their lights and siren to pull it over, but the vehicle drove off. When the officers caught up with the suspect vehicle again, it had already crashed into a tractor-trailer and caught fire on Route 3 and Monsanto, Chief Trice said. Officers at the crash scene then extinguished the fire.

The driver of the suspect vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. A enger in that car was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
Cahokia Heights police, the Illinois State Police Department and Accident Reconstruction are currently investigating.
