(Gray News) - ESPN College GameDay host Kirk Herbstreit has announced the death of his dog Ben after learning he had cancer.

“We found out today the cancer had spread throughout Ben’s organs and there was nothing left we could do-we had to let him go,” the college football commentator said on X.

Ben became a fixture at many of the biggest football games across the country, traveling with Herbstreit for the popular ESPN college football pregame show and games the former quarterback called on television.

“God please bless his majestic soul and thank you for putting him in my life for the last 10 years - a true blessing,” Herbstreit said.

Ben would receive media credentials at various events and hang out on the field before games, often rolling around in the grass on the field before kickoff.

He would also greet other teams' canine mascots like Texas A&M’s Reveille on the sidelines, creating memorable photo opportunities.

The two dogs reunited two weeks ago while Ben was undergoing chemotherapy. They sat side by side while Herbstreit petted his dog.
