Forecasters say environmental conditions could the formation of what is currently a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.
The NHC encourages those with interests along the U.S. Gulf Coast to continue monitoring this system, which has a 40% chance of formation over the next seven days.
Many along the Florida Gulf Coast are still reeling from Hurricane Helene’s impacts, which struck the state’s Big Bend region on Friday.
Helene affected a significant portion of the southeastern U.S., as the death toll has exceeded 150 as of Tuesday afternoon. Many of those deaths happened in the Carolinas as heavy winds and historic rainfall hit the region.
While hurricane season peaks around Sept. 10, the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico experience a secondary peak in mid-October.
