ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A St. Louis-based tax preparer is facing federal charges, accused of fraudulently preparing 41 tax returns for clients.

Shasherese Reed, 52, was indicted Wednesday on 41 counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false and fraudulent tax returns.

In 2015, the IRS revoked her Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) and the Electronic Filing Identification Number issued to her business, Sha-Sha Taxes, which meant she could not prepare taxes for pay. Federal authorities allege that she then continued to prepare taxes for clients using a business called Majac Money, which was opened by her daughter.

Authorities say Reed used her daughter’s PTIN and claimed her daughter was preparing taxes on the returns in question.

Federal authorities also allege the returns she worked on included claims for false and fraudulent deductions for state and local taxes, business expenses, mortgage interest and other items.
