DAVIDSONVILLE, Md. (WBAL) – Police in Maryland said two young men are in custody after a body was found in a torched car.

The gates at Tropic Bay Water Gardens were closed the day of the gruesome discovery Saturday.

Customer Brett Murray said learning a body was found inside of a torched vehicle in a nearby parking lot was shocking.

“Very surprising I mean, I guess it would be surprising anywhere I’m sure,” he said.

Cal Cunkleton is a resident who lives nearby. He also said the discovery was unexpected.

“That’s crazy, this is definitely a small town area, it’s not really known for criminal activity or any sort of arson,” he said.

In connection with the body and burned vehicle, Anne Arundel County Police said 18-year-old Kylee Dakes and 18-year-old Jonah Poole are facing charges of first and second degree murder, conspiracy, assault and arson.

Police said the suspects were picked up by officers Saturday for the suspicious death investigation.

“That is crazy and very sad,” Murray said. “Sorry to hear that, all the way around for everybody involved.”

The medical examiner ruled the death of the man in the vehicle as a homicide but is still working to determine the cause.

“Whoever it is, just sending healing love to any of the family and even the two young kids because that’s … their families are going through it too, I’m sure, so it’s just sad all the way around,” Murray said.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and are asking for the public’s help for any information about the incident.
