Suspect dead after officer-involved shooting in St. Louis
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died, after an officer-involved shooting in the City of St. Louis.
According to police, at around 11 a.m., officers noticed a car that was wanted as part of a previous armed robbery of a business. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the car, but the driver led police on a pursuit that ended near Natural Bridge and Clara. The suspect left the car and fled into a heavily wooded area alongside railway tracks.
At around 11:40 a.m., police located the suspect in the brush and gave verbal orders. It was at this time that shots were fired by an officer with SLMPD and an officer with the FBI Fugitive Task Force.
The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries. No officers were injured.
St. Louis police said that the robbery occurred on May 21 at a BP gas station in the area of Olive and Compton. According to police, multiple items were stolen from the gas station and a man was robbed of his phone and wallet after a suspect showed a gun.
Commanders and detectives with the Force Investigative Unit are responding to the incident.
The St. Louis officer who fired a gun has five years of service.
The suspect’s name has not been released but police said he is believed to be in his 20’s.
