Historic Lyle Mansion damaged by overnight fire
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Lyle Mansion in Carondelet Park was damaged by a fire overnight.
According to the St. Louis Fire Department, the fire was reported shortly after midnight at the two-story building, which now serves as a senior center.
Crews were able to knock down the main body of the fire from outside before focusing on the interior. Much of the house is still standing, but it is unclear how much of it will be able to be salvaged.
The fire department later said that two firefighters were injured while responding, but have since been treated and released.
According to the Missouri State Historical Preservation Office, the Lyle Mansion is the oldest frame house still in existence within the city limits.
The eight-room house was built in 1842 and became a city landmark in 1971.
First Alert 4 will update this story as new information becomes available.
