Pastor and wife facing charges in child sex abuse case involving adopted, biological children

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) - Authorities say a pastor and his wife are facing charges stemming from a criminal child sex abuse investigation.

Myron Chorbajian is the pastor of First Southern Methodist Church in Greenville.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Myron Chorbajian and his wife, Kathleen Chorbajian, had warrants out for their arrests when they were located in Nashville, Tennessee, on May 15.

Police said the couple was found on Opry Mills Drive at the Grand Ole Opry and taken into custody near a Dave & Buster’s.

They have been brought back to Greenville to face their charges.

Investigators with the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office Specialized Investigations Division said the child abuse allegations involve the couple’s adopted and biological children.

In April, investigators initiated an investigation after one of the victims ed law enforcement to report extensive abuse that occurred in the family home.

The Chorbajians had seven adopted children and one biological daughter.

According to the report, the abuse allegedly began in the 1980s.

Preliminary findings indicate that all the male children were subjected to physical abuse, while all the female children suffered sexual abuse. 

Authorities said two of the victims have since died, but did not immediately release their cause of death.

According to the Greenville County Detention Center, Myron Chorbajian is charged with the following:

  • (3 counts) Criminal sexual conduct with a minor between the ages of 11 and 14
  • (3 counts) Incest
  • Criminal sexual conduct, second degree
  • (14 counts) Unlawful placing child at risk
  • (2 counts) Assault and battery, second degree

Kathleen Chorbajian is facing the following charges:

  • (14 counts) Unlawful placing child at risk
  • (2 counts) Accessory after the fact of felony

The couple has been denied bond and both remain in custody at the Greenville County Detention Center.
