St. Louis County PD investigating after man reportedly armed with knife shot, injured by Hazelwood police officer
CLAYTON, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A man authorities say was armed with a knife was shot by a Hazelwood police officer Monday morning during a call to a domestic disturbance.
St. Louis County Police said in a news release it will investigate the officer-involved shooting aspect of the incident. The investigation is active and additional information will be provided as it becomes available, the agency said.
According to the news release, a Hazelwood officer responded around 11:32 a.m. to a report of a domestic disturbance in the 1300 block of Eagles Way Court. At the scene, the officer encountered a man reportedly armed with a knife and shot him.
The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of what the release describes as a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. The involved officer is 29 years old and has two years of law enforcement experience, according to the release.
St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives will conduct the investigation. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call investigators at 636-529-8210 or Crimestoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
