Scout Sunday held at Jefferson Barracks cemetery

Many local events planned for Memorial Day, Monday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - In anticipation of Memorial Day, Boy Scouts spent Sunday placing U.S. Flags on the graves of fallen of the armed forces at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

The annual tradition, dubbed Scout Sunday, brought scout troops from around the region to place the flags on more than 184,000 gravesites. The event marked the 76th year of Boy Scouts taking part in the tradition.

Jefferson Barracks said that an estimated 4,000 Scouts, leaders, and parents were expected to visit the cemetery on Sunday to take part in the event. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Memorial Day, at the cemetery.

Other events planned for Monday, Memorial Day, include:

* Downtown St. Louis at the Soldiers Memorial at 10 a.m.

* St. Charles at Veterans Tribune Park at 1 p.m.

* Manchester at the Veterans Memorial at 10 a.m.

*Alton Parade 10 a.m., starts at Alton Middle and travels up College Avenue to City Cemetery

*Belleville Parade, 10 a.m. starts at North 3rd & West “A” Street; east on Main and to Walnut Hill Cemetery

* City Museum is also offering free ission to of the armed forces on Monday
