Missouri National Guard engineers will arrive Wednesday to help with storm cleanup
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Gov. Mike Kehoe said on Saturday the Missouri National Guard will send 41 of an engineering brigade to help with clean-up in areas of St. Louis battered by the May 16 tornado.
The moves come following a formal request by Mayor Cara Spencer, who said during a Saturday afternoon press conference that efforts in the days ahead will focus on debris removal.
The guard are expected to arrive in the city on Wednesday and are of the 35th Engineer Brigade. Guard will work with various city agencies to set up four debris collection sites, the locations of which have not yet been released.
“Through this deployment, the State of Missouri is further assisting the City of St. Louis in recovery efforts following the devastating May 16 storms,” Kehoe said. “We are thankful for the efforts of the men and women of the Missouri National Guard in this mission.
“Recovery will take time, but our state agencies remain committed to partnering with local officials to assist affected residents and businesses,” he said.
