ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - President Donald Trump announced Friday that federal disaster assistance is now available to the areas of Missouri affected by the severe storms from March 14-15.

This makes federal funding available to those affected in Bollinger, Butler, Camden, Carter, Franklin, Howell, Iron, Jefferson, Oregon, Ozark, Perry, Phelps, Reynolds, Ripley, St. Louis, Wayne, Webster and Wright counties.

The funding can be used for temporary housing and home repairs, low-interest loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of disaster-damaged facilities in Bollinger, Butler, Callaway, Carter, Dunklin, Franklin, Howell, Iron, Madison, New Madrid, Oregon, Ozark, Perry, Phelps, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Shannon, Stoddard and Wayne counties.

“This is important and very welcome news for the Missouri families and communities hit hard by the devastating storms and tornadoes that began in March and have affected so much of our state,” Governor Kehoe said. “The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) will be working closely with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to move the federal assistance process forward, which will provide millions of dollars in much-needed recovery for individuals, families, and local jurisdictions. We appreciate the work of our federal congressional delegation in advocating for these requests and future assistance for Missourians.”

The President announced that David R. Gervino has been named as the Federal Coordinating Officer for federal recovery operations in the affected areas.

The additional request for April 29 storms is still under review, and the process of requesting a major disaster declaration for May 16 storms is still underway.

The President’s Office says those seeking assistance in these areas should first file claims with their insurance providers and then apply by ing online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or by using the FEMA App.
