St. Louis builders unite to help tornado victims
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The biggest builders in St. Louis have committed equipment and employees to help with the recovery for victims of the May 16 tornado.
Kristin Kalous is the Market Leader Vice President at Alberici.
“Alberici’s been in the St. Louis community FOR over 100 years. So when we got the call to help with this disaster, we jumped right in immediately,” she said.
Most major contracting companies started deploying employees into damaged areas over the weekend. Workers have focused on clearing streets and sidewalks of downed trees and debris.
“Try and get the community back to a sense of normalcy,” said Paric project manager James Brown.
Teams from the contracting community meet daily to coordinate where crews will be assigned and focus on the biggest needs.
Rick Moeckel is Executive Vice President at Clayco.
“It’s awesome to see how the community at large is coming together,” he said.
Some of the biggest needs include tarps, 2x4 lumber and sheets of plywood. Also, skilled laborers are needed who can take these kinds of materials. The contracting community is providing a big supply of manpower.
Christie Brinkman is Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at McCarthy.
“Everybody has stepped up and offered their best people to come down and help with the efforts to restore our city as quickly as we possibly can,” she said.
