Today: Friday is off to a cool start. Count on loads of sunshine early in the day, but cloudiness will slowly increase. We’re expecting highs in the low 70s. A sprinkle or brief shower is possible this evening.

Saturday brings lots of dry time, but limited sunshine. There is a low 20% chance for a few brief showers, mainly in the morning and midday hours.

Sunday’s rain chance is higher. In fact, the rain chances Sunday are likely the highest we’ll see through the entire 3-day holiday weekend. Be prepared for scattered showers. It won’t rain all day, but there will be some soggy times in the morning and afternoon.

Monday (Memorial Day) still has rain chances, but the latest trend is a little lower. We’re forecasting a 40% chance of rain. Meanwhile, temperatures will remain 10-15 degrees below normal for late May.

Thankfully, no strong or severe storms are expected through the holiday weekend. Rainfall totals from Saturday through Monday are trending downward as the latest model data continues to push the heavier rain farther south and southwest. It’s now looking likely that areas from St. Louis to the north and east will see less than an inch of rain. 1-2″ is more likely just to the southwest of St. Louis, with slightly higher amounts possible from Rolla to Farmington and south.

Rain may linger into Tuesday before a generally drier pattern takes hold with a warming trend through next week. High temperatures should return to normal in about a week.
