Murder charges filed after teen killed while breaking into cars in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - An 18-year-old has been charged with a fatal shooting during a crime.

On May 1, Aeyion Barnett, 16, was killed while reportedly breaking into cars around 2:20 a.m. in the 4300 block of Vermont Avenue.

Surveillance video obtained by First Alert 4 shows a group of six suspected thieves getting out of a vehicle in the 4300 block of Vermont Avenue. The thieves are then seen breaking into a white Chevrolet Suburban before something startles them and they begin firing handguns in all directions.

Police said one of the suspects shot Barnett, described as a 16-year-old accomplice. On surveillance video, the teen can be heard screaming.

Derrick Bostic, 18, has been charged with one count of second-degree murder, two counts of armed criminal action and one count of unlawful use of a weapon.

A second suspect, a 15-year-old boy, was arrested and is being held in the Juvenile Court on one count of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
