House fire caused by golf cart bought by homeowner an hour before

FAIRMONT, W.Va (WDTV/Gray News) - Authorities in West Virginia said a house fire was caused by a new golf cart that had been bought by the home’s owners just an hour before it caught fire.

Emergency crews responded to the Fairmont home around 10:45 a.m. Monday.

The Valley Volunteer Fire Department made a post regarding the fire on its Facebook page, saying the cause of the fire was determined to be the newly bought golf cart.

The fire department said the homeowner was a safe distance outside the home and away from the blaze.

The fire was placed under control within 40 minutes.

No injuries were reported.
