TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG/Gray News) - A mechanic accused of killing a man during an argument over car work has been convicted of manslaughter.

According to court records, Fabian Dorrough appeared in court on Monday, where he withdrew his not guilty plea and pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence and having weapons while under disability.

Authorities said Dorrough turned himself in on Oct. 11, 2024, after he shot and killed Rashad Ewing. Police believe the argument was over work done on a car.

A Lucas County grand jury later indicted Dorrough on two counts of murder and a felonious assault charge. Dorrough initially pleaded not guilty last October.

The families of Fabian Dorrough and Rashad Ewing packed the courtroom during Dorrough’s court appearance.

“He was an electrician. He helped a lot of people in the community. We laughed. We talked about going fishing together. I can’t really believe that this is going on. He was a good young man and I loved him to death,” Troy Jackson, Ewing’s father, said.

According to court documents, Dorrough was in the driveway helping a friend fix a vehicle they were working on. Ewing then arrived in his car, which he believed Dorrough had not fixed correctly.

Dorrough exchanged words with Ewing before allegedly pulling out a gun and shooting him twice, striking Ewing at least once in the head.

“It’s really sad that the young men couldn’t just talk it out. Work it out without using a gun to settle whatever dispute they had,” Jackson said.

Ewing’s father said there’s not a day that goes by that he doesn’t think of his son.

“Every day is hard. Hopefully, we can get through this and get justice. That’s what we want, justice,” he said.

Dorrough’s family did not immediately respond to a request for comment about the situation.

Dorrough is due back in court on May 27 for sentencing.
