Residents race to secure homes and belongings before next round of rain
ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) - With more rain in the forecast Monday night, residents impacted by Friday’s tornado are rushing to tarp over homes, board up windows, and secure their valuables.
Steve Plant, who works with ATI Restoration, has been managing crews around the area who are trying to get ahead of the next storm.
“Many of our customers don’t have roof structures, so we’re helping them protect their personal items. We’ve been working with a woman here all weekend to get all of her belongings out before the rains come,” Plant said.

Many large apartment buildings still have broken windows or damaged roofs. Workers at the Embassy, located on Union Avenue, were boarding up dozens of windows throughout the day on Monday.
Brenda Crawford, who works with the company that manages the building, said resident safety had been its top priority as contractors made the necessary repairs.
“Our main focus is making sure residents are good, safe, they have food, water, and securing our buildings with the rain coming in,” she said. “We’re getting it watertight.”
One resident, Inaya Smith, had been in her unit on the top floor of the building when the storm hit. Her car windows had also been shattered during the storm.
“I feel like I’ve been through the worst right now, so I’m just glad to be here,” she said.
