Clayton School District cancels school Monday after Friday tornado
2 other schools in Clayton have also closed
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The Clayton School District will be closed on Monday in the aftermath of the tornado that went through the city on Friday.
According to the school district, the closure includes all district schools, the KidZone and all indoor programs or activities scheduled to take place in Clayton facilities. The district said sports practices will still be held but at alternate sites. Coaches will inform parents and students of these alternate locations.
The district reports that both Captain Elementary School and Wydown Middle School are still without power with no estimation on when it will be restored.
“The City is actively working to clear roads, sidewalks and school campuses of debris and overhanging hazards,” the district said in an email to parents. “These conditions currently present serious safety risks, especially for pedestrians. For your safety and to the crews working on cleanup, we urge you to limit unnecessary travel in the areas impacted by the storm, including streets and sidewalks. For the latest updates, please visit the City’s website.”
Families in the Clayton School District who need assistance are asked to fill out a form.
“In addition, we understand the emotional toll this devastating event has taken, especially on our students. Once we are back in school, we will be working closely with staff to provide for students as they process and recover from this experience,” the district said.
Central Christian School will also be closed on Monday because of storm damage. Forsyth School, also in Clayton, will be closed through Tuesday.
