ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A tribute to the renowned civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was damaged by the severe storms Friday that hit St. Louis.

The statue of Dr. King located in Fountain Park in St. Louis was toppled by the tornado that ripped through the area. The 11-foot-tall bronze sculpture was added to the park in 1978, ten years after Dr. King was slain by an assassin’s bullet as he stood on a balcony at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.

The statue continues a plaque that states “Our Dream, Martin Luther King Jr. 1929-1968.” It is not clear when the statue will be repaired, as damage to the city is widespread due to the storm.
