ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- More than 20,000 people are still without electricity in the St. Louis metropolitan area following severe storms last Friday and Monday evening.

The most affected areas are St. Louis and St. Louis County. In the city, around 16,242 people have no power as of Tuesday afternoon. In the county, 5,170 customers reported outages.

Jefferson County to the south has about 300 outages.

In Illinois, around 580 people are without power on Tuesday.

On Monday, Ameren Missouri said they have around 2,000 workers on the ground, with most concentrated in the city. Ameren also said over 300 power poles have been replaced thus far. Crews have been brought in from Illinois, Arkansas, Indiana and Oklahoma to assist in the recovery effort.

An Ameren spokesperson said it could be up until Friday for some properties to be restored.

“We anticipate our crews’ efforts to rebuild infrastructure will take days, extending into mid to late next week,” the company said.
