WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - A key vote to advance President Donald Trump’s key agenda bill failed on Capitol Hill Friday.

The legislation, that the president refers to as “one big beautiful bill,” hit a setback after the GOP-led House Budget Committee failed to it out of committee.

Four Republican holdouts — Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), Ralph Norman (R-S.C.), John Brecheen (R-Okla.) and Andrew Clyde (R-Ga.) — voted against it.

During the hearing, President Trump urged Republicans to back the bill on Truth Social.

“Republicans MUST UNITE behind, “THE ONE, BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL!” the president wrote. “Not only does it cut Taxes for ALL Americans, but it will kick millions of Illegal Aliens off of Medicaid to PROTECT it for those who are the ones in real need.”

Rep. Norman said he did not hear from the White House directly. He also said he’s a hard no until key issues are ironed out.

“How do you disagree with the agenda he laid out? He’s a smart guy and he’s got so many good things and all we’re asking is we’ll compromise somewhere,” he said.

Rep. Lloyd Smucker (R-Penn.) also voted against the bill but clarified on X that his “no” vote was for procedural strategy.

The House majority leader, Steve Scalise (R-La.) said that conversations to get the bill through are ongoing.

“We’re working on some questions that Ralph and others have and we’re going to be getting them answers as soon as we get them back from the Trump istration,” he said. “His questions were the same as Chip’s and a few others. They’re very specific questions, valid questions and we’re working on getting those answers right now”

House Republicans have a self-imposed deadline of Memorial Day to the legislation through their chamber. The committee is expected to try a vote again next week, with the key budget planning to reconvene Sunday night at 10pm ET.
