Mountain lion euthanized after killing 4 pet goats near elementary school, authorities say

CAMPTONVILLE, Calif. (Gray News) – A mountain lion in California had to be euthanized after it attacked and killed at least four domestic goats, according to authorities.
The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office said it was alerted to a mountain lion on residential property in Camptonville.
The property hosts an in-home day care and is near Camptonville Elementary School.
The sheriff’s office said the home’s owner attempted to get the mountain lion to leave the property, but was unsuccessful.
Because of how close the animal was to children and the potential threat to public safety, the sheriff’s office ed the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Wildlife Services for help.
Personnel with the department, along with the sheriff’s office then responded to the area where they found and euthanized the mountain lion.
The sheriff’s office is reminding residents to report any dangerous wildlife sightings or incidents and also to be careful and cautious in areas where wildlife might be present.
