Pre-match Preview: Round 2 with Seattle
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (Matrix Midwest) - St. Louis CITY SC will kick off May with a road match against Seattle Sounders FC.
This will be the second meeting between the two this season.
The last time they faced one another, CITY took home three points in a 1-0 win in St. Louis. The match, played on March 15, marks the last time CITY came out victorious after suffering a multitude of draws and losses throughout the month of April.
St. Louis played to a 2-2 draw against LAFC at BMO Stadium in its last match.
READ:
CITY SC (10 points) now sits in a three-way tie for 11th place in the Western Conference, posting a 2-4-4 record.
Its last result against LAFC marked just the second time the club has scored more than once in a match all year.

St. Louis will now prepare for its second bout of 2025 with Seattle Sounders FC. Seattle currently sits in ninth place in the Western Conference with 13 points on a 3-3-4 record.
The Sounders are coming off a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids, extending the club’s unbeaten run to three matches. Seattle is hot right now. It has taken seven points from those three, scoring five goals and allowing just two. The Rave Green have jumped up three spots in the standings thanks to this run, taking down tough teams like FC Dallas and Nashville FC.

Seattle’s 13 goals give them a +1 goal differential so far. The Sounders have gone scoreless in all three of its losses, including the one to St. Louis. In matches it has scored in, the club is 3-0-3 and averages 2.2 goals per contest. So, typically, when Seattle scores, it tends to take points. Only one of its scoreless matches has resulted in a draw.
St. Louis’s backline can narrow its focus slightly more towards forward Danny Musovski, with Jordan Morris potentially missing more time after reaggravating his hamstring injury. Musovski, who scored the lone Seattle goal in its last match, is tied with Morris for leading the club in scoring with three goals each.

In five meetings with Seattle all-time, CITY SC has lost four times. The Sounders have outscored St. Louis nine to two in these matches, holding CITY scoreless in three of the four defeats. Most of Seattle’s goals in these matches came in the second half. And in St. Louis’s last five matches, five of the seven goals it’s conceded were allowed between 45 and 90. So, St. Louis may need to reverse that trend if it wants to keep history from repeating itself.
As for injuries, Conrad Wallem was diagnosed with an eye contusion after leaving the LAFC match in the first half. He was at training on Wednesday, practicing fully, along with Eduard Löwen, who was making his first appearance in training in several weeks. Roman Bürki was also seen participating in full for the first time in over a month. Tomas Totland was the only player not seen in training after reports of pain in last weekend’s match.

Bottom Line: There has been a steady climb in the attacking half through St. Louis’s last few matches, which have been against some of the toughest teams in the league. The ways to infiltrate and defeat the Sounders appear to be far more clear-cut than some of the more recent opponents. And CITY SC has already defeated Seattle once this year, there’s no reason that result can’t be repeated.
Kick-off is set for 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Lumen Field.
