DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY/Gray News) - Police in Alabama arrested a man after multiple people reported seeing a person carrying what appeared to be a rocket-propelled grenade launcher, also known as an RPG.

Dothan police said the suspect was identified as 26-year-old Keyun Marquez Hill.

Officials said Hill was arrested and charged with possession of a hoax destructive device.

He was booked into the Dothan City Jail, and the device was seized by officers and placed into evidence.

Police said Hill described himself as a prankster, filming content for social media.

In Alabama, it is against the law to openly carry a toy gun but not illegal to openly carry a real gun.

The law states, “It shall be unlawful for a person to manufacture, possess, transport, or distribute a hoax destructive device or detonator which would cause another to reasonably believe that it is real.”

On the other hand, if Hill had carried a handgun, shotgun, or even a semiautomatic rifle such as an AR15, police would have been powerless to arrest him because displaying those weapons in public is not against the law. An authentic RPG would be illegal, however.
