DENHAM SPRINGS, La. (WAFB/Gray News) - A 13-year-old boy in Louisiana was killed after he was struck by a car while riding his bicycle early Sunday morning, according to officials.

Louisiana State Police said Matthew Temple was traveling west on his bike on LA-1026 in the westbound lane around 1:20 a.m.

At the same time, a vehicle was also traveling west on LA-1026.

The vehicle then collided with the back of the bike for reasons police said are still under investigation.

Troopers said the teen was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was seriously injured. He was taken to a hospital where he later died.

The driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

Routine toxicology samples were obtained and submitted for analysis as the investigation continues.
