‘Cruel and awful’: Woman asks for return of wedding rings after mausoleum theft
RALEIGH COUNTY, W.Va. (WVVA/Gray News) - A woman in West Virginia is hoping someone out there will do the right thing and return rings taken from her late husband’s final resting place.
Heather Faust said the three rings taken include wedding rings as well as her engagement ring.
“I just don’t know how somebody could bring themselves to do something so cruel and awful,” she said. “I just don’t know how they would have the heart to take from somebody that’s alive, much less dead.”
Faust said she first noticed the rings were gone last week.
She said the rings were taken from her husband’s display at the Blue Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens.
She also said she has ed authorities for help but is afraid the rings may be gone forever.
“They said that they would come down and check to see if there’s cameras, and there are no cameras recording any footage of the cemetery,” she said. “They’re just waiting for somebody to step up with information leading to who they think might have removed the glass to get inside to the rings.”
Faust said she really doesn’t care who took the rings or why, she just wants them back.
“Just bring them back. I won’t even press charges, I just want them back,” she said. “They’re very sentimental. I won’t even turn you in.”
A representative from Blue Ridge Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens released a statement on the theft.
“It saddens us, of course, that a thief would prey on cemeteries and a loved one’s final resting place to commit a crime,” the statement reads. “Theft of any kind is unacceptable but theft on cemetery property is particularly despicable.”
It continues, “Anyone who has a loved one interred in our mausoleum has keys and 24-hour access to the building. We urge anyone with information to report it to the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office.”
