(Gray News) - The White House shared a memorial post for the late Pope Francis, writing “Rest in Peace,” alongside photos of President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance meeting him.

Trump wrote on social media, “Rest in Peace Pope Francis! May God Bless him and all who loved him!”

The day before the death of Francis, Vance met with the pontiff in Vatican City.

The Easter Sunday meeting lasted less than 20 minutes and came about due to Vance’s trip to Italy.

During the meeting, Vance could be heard telling the Pope that he prays for him every day.

The 88-year-old presented Vance with a tie, rosaries and three large chocolate Easter eggs for Vance’s children.

Vance converted to Catholicism as an adult and referred to himself as a “baby Catholic.”

Francis died early Monday morning.

“At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church,” said Cardinal Kevin Farrell, the Vatican camerlengo, who takes charge after a pontiff’s death.
