2 teachers on leave after getting into a fight at school, officials say

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB/Gray News) - Two teachers in Louisiana have been placed on leave after an altercation took place between them, according to authorities.

One of the teachers now faces a criminal charge.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said two teachers got into a fight at La Belle Aire Head Start around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Officials said 35-year-old Ashley Daniels was issued a summons for misdemeanor simple battery.

According to officials, both teachers were placed on istrative leave while the Baton Rouge Police and City-Parish Human Resources Department continue to investigate.

The Head Start Program is a preschool readiness program typically serving children between the ages of 3 and 5. It is operated through the city-parish government.

Program manager Dr. Kar-Tina Roberts deferred comment on the matter to the parish’s communications team.

City-Parish spokeswoman Falon Brown wrote in a statement that the behavior would not be tolerated.

“The safety and well-being of the children in our care is our highest priority. We will not tolerate conduct that compromises the integrity of our educational environment or the trust of our community. The children of Baton Rouge deserve a safe, respectful, and ive learning atmosphere,” Brown said.

Brown added that a critical incident report about the fight has been submitted to parish officials and is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

The city-parish did not provide additional details or provide the report, which could indicate if the situation resulted in any injuries, citing the ongoing investigation.
