Community leaders host peace rally at Fairground Park after mass shooting Sunday
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis Metropolitan police (SLMPD) is investigating after Sunday night’s shooting at Fairground Park in north St. Louis. One person died and four were injured.
Community leaders gathered at the park Wednesday wanting to bring back normalcy.
Jason Watson, Senior Vice President of Engagement for Mission St. Louis, tells First Alert 4, “We just want to remind the community that what took place on Sunday is not a reflection of every day for us here.”
Maurice Roberts-Parnell, 21, of Florissant died in Sunday’s shooting.
“Our normal should look like this, when it’s people skating in the park, when it’s people enjoying themselves,” says Watson.
A call to action was answered by men and women from around St. Louis.
Alderwoman Laura Keys represents the area where the park sits.
Keys tells First Alert 4, “I would like to see a greater police presence in our community with police officers driving through on a more regular basis.”
First Alert 4 looked into calls for service at Fairground Park. There were 37 calls for service and 2024 and 12 so far in 2025.
“Everybody wants to live in a safe environment. Everybody wants to walk down the street and not have the fear of hearing gunshots or gunshots coming their way,” says Farrakhan Shegog with the Public Safety Collaborative.
Leaders hope the rally will be a step towards ending gun violence.
