Police investigating overnight carjacking that led to fatal crash in St. Louis, 5 arrested
ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Five people were arrested after carjacking a vehicle, leading police on a pursuit, and crashing into another vehicle, killing the driver.
Police say that around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, a 22-year-old woman was carjacked in the 700 block of Belt near Enright. A group of individuals armed with guns stole her Nissan.
About 20 minutes later, an officer spotted the carjacked vehicle at Natural Bridge and Goodfellow driving dangerously. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but it fled at a high rate of speed through a red light at the intersection of Natural Bridge and Union. Moments later, the Nissan T-boned a Hyundai Sonata, which was traveling north on Union.
A woman, identified as Hyansama Reese, 44, who was driving the Hyundai, was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Officers arrested a 22-year-old man, a 20-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy, a 15-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old girl. Police said none of them sustained serious injuries. Two firearms and a fake gun were recovered from the Nissan.
The two adults from the carjacked Nissan were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The Force Investigations Unit is still investigating.
