Democrats push for child tax credit
Tax credits for dependents have expired
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Tax Day is less than a week away, April 15.
Democrats on Capitol Hill are pushing to extend a child tax credit.
If ed, it could save families thousands of dollars a year.
Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado insists, “We don’t want to leave America’s children behind.”
The Colorado Democrat is introducing legislation to permanently expand a child tax credit.
The American Family Act would increase the value of the child Ttx credit from $2,000 to $6,360 for newborns, $4,320 for children age one to six, and $3,600 for children age six to 17.
Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro says the time is now.
“If we can provide tax cuts for the wealthiest people in the nation, then by God, they’re going to have a child tax credit that’s going to take care of all kids.”
There are three qualifications for this tax break. The first one is that the child has to have a valid Social Security number. The child has to be under the age of seven teen by the time the tax filing deadline rolls around. And you need to have an income less than $200,000.
Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada says this legislation is about ing families, “They deserve more money in their pocket. They deserve the priority of us to focus on how we keep their costs lower and focus on making their lives a little bit better.”
So far, 38 Senators have cosponsored the bill.
