ST. LOUIS (First Alert 4) -- This week’s guest on Backstory STL is Bobby Bostic, who was incarcerated for 27 years for an armed robbery he committed as a 16-year-old.

A judge originally sentenced Bostic to 241 years in prison, effectively a life sentence. A 2021 Missouri law about crimes committed by juveniles gave Bostic a chance at parole, and he was released in 2022.

He talks about the simple things in life with joy after spending nearly three decades in the Missouri prison system. He’s traveled across the country for public speaking engagements about his perseverance in changing his life and getting out of prison. He’s also the author of nine books, including “Dear Mama,” in which he shares his relationship with his mother, who died of cancer at 42.

His last words to her? “I’m coming home one day.”
