CITY shut out in I-70 derby match against KC, scoreless in 3 matches

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis CITY SC was shut out Saturday in the I-70 derby match against Sporting KC. Kansas City beat St. Louis 2-0 at Children’s Mercy Park for their first win since September.
The match was the third time CITY was shut out in a row. CITY has been scoreless in five of their seven matches of the 2025 season.
The scoreless game wasn’t due to the lack of attempts by the St. Louis side to score.
In minute 19, Conrad Wallem took a from João Klauss to the top of the KC box, where he took a shot that hit the goalpost.
A minute later, CITY players raced down the pitch with a cross from Alfredo Morales. Wallem grabbed the cross from the air with his left foot and attempted a shot with his right, but KC’s keeper, John Pulskamp, was right in front of him to block it. As the ball bounded off of Pulskamp, Akil Watts took a stab with his right foot and sent the ball over the goal and into the KC er’s section.
In minute 36, CITY tried again, with a from Wallem at the top of Sporting’s box back to Morales a couple of yards back from the box. He took a right-footed shot that went just high of the goal.
In minute 42, Klauss attempted a header from a Célio Pompeu cross into the box. That shot went high. In minute 44, Pompeu ed to Marcel Hartel, who took a shot from the top of the box that went wide on the right.
In the second half, Tomas Ostrak took a shot and missed in minute 49, in minute 54 Hartel took another shot which was saved by the KC keeper and in minute 57, Wallem hit a header in the box off of a corner kick that was saved by the KC keeper. In minute 84 Ostrak attempted again but went wide. Two minutes into extra minutes at the end of the second half Simon Becher gave CITY their last chance to score a goal, but it was saved by Pulskamp.
In total, CITY had 11 shots with five on goal. CITY had numerous chances to score, but at the end of the day, close isn’t enough to win a game.
On the other side, KC also had 11 shots with four of those on goal. KC’s Dejan Joveljic made good on two of those on goal shots, once in minute 71 and again in minute 88.
CITY went into the match with seven players unavailable. Rasmus Alm, Roman Bürki, Chris Durkin, Jannes Horn, Jay Reid and Tomas Totland were out with injuries. Eduard Löwen was also out but for an unspecified non-injury reason.
Joakim Nilsson left the game 26 minutes in due to an injury. It’s not yet clear how bad that injury was, but it adds to CITY’s long list of injured players.
The game was a brutal loss against the team’s rival. The next time St. Louis and Kansas City will face each other will be on May 14 at Energizer Park.
In the meantime, CITY’s next match is Sunday at 6 p.m. at Energizer Park against the Columbus Crew.
