New York Republican was tapped to serve as ambassador to the United Nations
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - The chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) first announced the news, with Donald Trump himself posting on Truth Social that he is pulling the nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik to be his ambassador to the United Nations
In a post on social media, President Donald Trump confirmed that he’s going to have to wait for Elise Stefanik of New York to his istration.
He’d nominated Stefanik to serve as his ambassador to the United Nations.
Just ahead of expected confirmation hearings next week, Senator Jim Risch, the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations committee, first told reporters that the nomination was being pulled.
President Trump confirmed that part of the reason why he was pulling the nomination was that it’s essential for Republicans to maintain every Republican seat in Congress.
As Trump has nominated of the House to serve in his istration, the Republican majority has slipped to just one vote.
In the post, he itted, “With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat.”
Next week, Florida holds special elections for two seats, with Florida Republicans itting that the races are far closer than expected.
Stefanik had served in the number four post in Republican leadership in the House, the chair of the House Republican conference and the president promised she’d return to the house leadership team, although currently, Representative Lisa McClain of Michigan is the chair.
