CJC inmate who died was suspect in 2014 double shooting that received national attention

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - First Alert 4 Investigates has confirmed with Attorney Bob Taafee that the St. Louis City Justice Center (CJC) inmate who died on Sunday was his client, Derek Dean.
Dean was a suspect in a 2014 shooting case that was featured in a 2019 episode of “In Pursuit with John Walsh,” a show that focuses on tracking down fugitives.
Dean was accused of shooting twin brothers, one of whom died, on July 4, 2014, on Hammet Place in North City.
We reached out to the city to learn the detainee’s identity. We were told they would not share the name, to avoid violating HIPAA.
