ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4)—Homer G. Phillips Memorial Hospital surrendered its hospital license this week after failing to meet State standards.

“I’m not shocked it seems like this has been a long process,“ said 14th Ward Aldermen Rasheen Aldridge.

Homer G. Phillips Hospital is now permanently closed.

“Not only is it a food desert, it’s a healthcare desert. Not having quality access to healthcare. It’s gonna be another empty building that Paul Mckee’s name is on,” said Aldridge.

Paul McKee, the developer, owns numerous properties in the St. Louis area.

In December, the hospital announced it would be temporarily closed due to not having a secure blood supply.

“It is disheartening because this part of my ward and further north do need access to healthcare,” said Aldridge.

According to the State, they were notified of the closure on Monday.

”We don’t need another empty building, no matter if this one is nicer than the other empty buildings, we need buildings that are gonna be occupied for residence,” said Aldridge.

The state says the one-year-old hospital could reapply for a hospital license in the future.
