Swastikas spray painted on Affton High School building

Several Nazi swastikas and the phrase “White Power” were found spray painted on Affton High School this morning.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (First Alert 4) -- Students at Affton High School arrived to find ugly messages of hate spray painted on the side of their building.

The graffiti contained swastikas and other white supremacist symbols and phrases. The district said it had happened overnight.

In a statement to parents, s said the district had immediately ed St. Louis County Police and the Anti-Defamation League.

“We recognize that this incident may cause distress among our students, families, and staff. Our counseling team is available to anyone who needs to process this troubling event. We also encourage open conversations at home about the importance of respect, inclusion, and standing against hate in all its forms,” they wrote.

The district had scrubbed off the paint by early afternoon. Eventually, a different message arrived across the street.

A few dozen parents, neighbors and other community showed up across the street from the school, carrying messages of love and .

Julie Kopf, the parent of an Affton student, said they had wanted to greet students after class with affirmation.

“We just want to be out here spreading love and we want that to be the loudest message they get today,” she said.

As of Friday afternoon no suspects had been named.
