ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - St. Louis CITY SC managed to keep at bay MLS’ newest team on Saturday, but CITY could not manage to get their first goal of the 2025 season.

CITY SC and San Diego FC were both scoreless by the end of their match at San Diego’s inaugural home opener at Snapdragon Stadium. CITY got outshot by San Diego 14 to two, but San Diego only had one shot on goal that Keeper Roman Bürki was able to save with ease. Both of CITY’s shots were on target, but San Diego’s C.J. dos Santos was able to stop both.

“We played really good defensively, and that’s not just the defense, the whole team, also the strikers,” Bürki, who has added two more clean sheets to his record this season, said to the press after the match. “I think there was just a good fighting performance from our side.”

Late into Saturday’s match CITY forward Célio Pompeu entered the game, marking the first time he’s played an MLS match since a fibula fracture and ankle dislocation he suffered during a match in June 2024.

CITY will return to California next weekend for a match on Sunday against LA Galaxy.
