ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A fake website suggesting ties between mayoral candidate Cara Spencer and the MAGA movement has been taken down.

The site, https://www.brighterfuturestl.com/more-info bore a similar name to the webpage of a Political Action Committee (PAC) that has been raising money to Spencer’s campaign, www.abrighterfuturestl.com.

The fake page included several videos in of President Trump and other prominent conservative Republicans.

Mayor Tishaura Jones shared screengrabs of the page via social media and email on Thursday, writing, “After eagerly taking over half a million dollars in campaign cash from billionaire developers and their wealthy friends, it should come as no surprise that my opponent in this race, Cara Spencer, has allied with some right-wing MAGA types.”

First Alert 4 asked Jones about the post on Friday morning after the site had been taken down. At the time, Jones stood by her post.

“It’s not fake,” she said. “We pulled up the videos and that’s what it showed.”

First Alert 4 found an archived version of the site via the Wayback Machine that listed information for the Brighter Future “Pac,” not capitalizing the last two letters of the abbreviation.

Spencer said she had no knowledge of the site until she saw the Mayor’s post. She called the site, which was created on Feb. 21, suspicious.

“Obviously, this is fabricated and made-up nonsense,” Spencer said. “They call this part of the campaign the silly season. There’s a lot of silliness coming out of the mayor’s office.”

The PAC’s advisor, Jordan Overstreet also told First Alert 4 that the site was not connected to Brighter Future STL or to Spencer’s campaign, and criticizing Jones for sharing it, writing, “This is desperate and not surprising. The mayor is running her campaign like she’s running the city: poorly.”

Later, Jones’ campaign sent out a press release acknowledging the page’s lack of authenticity. While not apologizing for the original posts, the release said Jones was “relieved” that Spencer had disavowed the site. The release also said that videos on the fake site had appeared to be AI-generated.

“We would like to stress again: if this website was not produced by Cara’s PAC, we would be glad to learn that,” the release states. “We call on the Spencer camp to disavow both the pro-Trump ads hosted thereon, and the disgusting, AI-generated attack content that was present on the site, which falsely represents Mayor Jones in a variety of fabricated situations. Those videos still say they are sponsored by her PAC.”
